The short version

What this is

Compound Joy is a free personal-finance tool built by one person. You can use it to track your net worth, plan for retirement, and journal about your money. That's it.

By using the site, you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Who can use it

You need to be old enough to agree to online terms in your jurisdiction — in most places that's 13, 16, or 18 depending on local law. If you're a minor, ask a parent or guardian before signing up for an account.

Your account (if you create one)

• You're responsible for keeping your password safe.
• One person per account. Don't share logins.
• Don't use the site to do anything illegal, abusive, or designed to harm other users or our infrastructure.
• You can delete your account anytime from Settings → Manage account → Delete. Your data is removed from our systems shortly after.

Your data

Your financial data belongs to you. We don't sell it, rent it, share it with ad networks, or use it to train anything. The privacy page spells out exactly what leaves your browser and what doesn't.

You can export everything you've entered at any time from Settings → Data. If the service ever shuts down, we'll give you a heads-up and an export window — no lock-in.

What this isn't

Compound Joy is a tracking and visualization tool. It is not financial advice, tax advice, investment advice, or a substitute for a qualified professional. The projections, FIRE estimates, and retirement math are based on the numbers you enter and standard textbook assumptions — they're educational, not prescriptive. Big financial decisions deserve real advice from a person who knows your full picture.

Service availability

The service is provided “as is.” We try to keep everything running, accurate, and bug-free, but we can't promise the site will always be available, every calculation will always be right, or every feature will stay unchanged forever. Features may be added, removed, or tweaked as the product evolves.

We're not liable for losses arising from your use of the site, inaccuracies in the tools, downtime, data loss, or financial decisions you made using the tools. To the extent allowed by law, our liability is limited to whatever you've paid us — which, for the free tier, is zero.

Tips & third-party services

If you send us a tip through Buy Me a Coffee, that transaction is between you and Buy Me a Coffee — their terms apply. Same for Clerk (authentication) and any other third party whose service shows up in Compound Joy. We list them on the privacy page.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and, for signed-in users, flag the change on next login. Continuing to use the site after that counts as accepting the updated terms.
